Beginner Lesson Plan November Part 2
Start of class: Say your Hello's and introductions, check if they have cards, make sure they are on your list ( if not on list send them to office), get to zone (Takes about 3 minutes)
Warm up:
Roll the Dice! One Dice has body Positions and the other one has a conditioning. You pick the number amount!
Example: First dice says jumping jacks and second dice says Hollow. You pick the number 10. They do 10 jumping jacks then hold Hollow position for 10 seconds.
This is a fun way to warm up! (No more then 7 minutes)
Other ideas to do as a whole class: Pick one either a group activity or circuit ( Takes about 10-15 minutes)
In a circle or spread out show:
Bridges: 0ne leg, one arm, one leg and arm, rainbow bridge (both legs together and straight).
Handstands: Kicking up, monkey tail, or donkey kicks
Forward and Backwards rolls
Full and Half turns
Everyone do bridge and you spot each kid doing backbend while they hold bridge. If strong enough spot bridge kick over
Do a circuit with the stations:
Explain the circuit. Have kids go through it for a few minutes.
Then break into stations
Other ending class ideas pick one: (No more then 5 minutes)
Cool down stretching, Sit in circle show a favorite skill, Play a gymnastic useful game
At the end of class ask the kids what their favorite station was ( great way to do this is while they are cleaning mats). This is a useful tool to see what is working.
Stations:( About 30 minutes)
1. Forward Roll staying straight on red line. Challenge – Straddle roll hands push on red line to standing straddle position
2. Cartwheel – 1 foot in each panel, follow rhythm of hand, hand, foot, foot. Challenge – work bonus skill if ready
3. Leg lifts – block between ankles, lift legs over head (like back roll) and back down to floor. Challenge – back roll with block in ankles ***PLEASE HAVE KIDS FACE TRAMPOLINE SO THEIR LEGS/BOTTOM ARE NOT FACING AUDIENCE
4. Tick Tock – Start and finish 1 foot on each color to work that lunge position.
5. Elevated pushups 5x then 1 trust fall
6. Round off – Start at top, hands at bottom, land feet on floor. Challenge – Run round off up the wedge, feet land on floor
7. Handstand – Spider handstands (roll out if ready). Challenge – Kick up Handstand with just feet on wall (not whole body)
8. Bridge work – Lay down bridge up over red & hold 1 leg up for 5 and switch.
