Open Space Lesson Plan
NOTE: if you change location of any mats to where the plan as presented down below/in video is no longer recognizable you MUST put them back into the basic format before any other coach uses the area so they can jump right in and use the basic format as presented below w/out confusion.
1. Rolls as needed by the kids for cards or just generic basic gymnastic development
2. Bridge/Tick Tock family
3. Round off family (two choices.... either off raised carpeted beam or floor beam. Choose base on ability of child. Place pillow wide across from landing area from raised beam so kids who may land crooked and fall back actually dont miss the pillow.
4. Wall handstand family or bridge wall walk family. DO NOT PLANT YOURSELF HERE longer than a few seconds cause you can not view other students well.
5. Sit ups- feet squeeze the 5gal bucket. Kids play drums on it each time they sit up
6. Trampoline- Straddle Jumps as opposed to X jumps
7. your choice area- IF they do running skill make sure they run from rear fence and do skill in the more open end.
Free space in middle area- work card skills. End of this by fence, is also likely where you as coach should likely plant yourself so you have view of every student. Don't forget to scan constantly all stations between assisting child you are with. Use your loud but positive voice to make corrections to children at stations. Consider calling student over to make correction then send them back as an option for distant station instruction.
HINTS.....
1. feel free to pull two kids to you for card work and put them back in to the rotation the way you see best. Having two kids allows you to get thru all kids cards better.
2. You may recongnize that a kid's skills they need to work on easily incorporates into one of the existing stations so you could choose to tell that child.. "once you get to number X... come get me so I can step over and look at the xyz trick your doing there"
NOTE:
1. All sub skills should be worked on eventually. All subskills are needed to be marked off when they have done them for two or more weeks.
2. To get the star(s) they should also be able to complete the most complex of all the subskills (aka they can do all them if they can complete that one).
3. ONE EXCEPTION to #2 is the Subskill "stand up from bridge" in the Backbend area of card. If this was not a wrist band skill I'd say just .... we can live with it. This will be corrected in a future card print.
