MIRROR side

Stick Tower- Cartwheel/Round off family

Use this for cartwheels and/or roundoffs between the vertical sticks.
. Hands can go on Pink or White. Larger kids you might put one hand on red and other on white
. First hand and foot go on a center line
> VERY IMPORTANT Second hand should NOT face in direction of travel.  Should be sideways or even better in direction of where skill started (T-Hands)
> Round off's- the second hand should go barely to one side of the center line. If right tumbler then right side of line... left/left side

Parent Talking Points:
XYZ kid worked hard on this..... will help them get their body turned around so it can move from forward skills smoothly into backward skills.
XYZ kid worked hard on this.... this really helps her further her roundoff development which is literally the most important skill in backward power tumble... even more so than a backhandspring

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Round off hands

Down Hill Tumble: use for families of backward roll, cartwheel , roundoff
. Round off: Hands on the hill/ block / other side of block.
> encourage LENGTH...
> body Can go over block stood sideways or vertical.
> good place for those read to do BOTH....
>> jump bound UP
>> put feet at end further forward creating off balance backward requiring steps or slight run in reverse to aid in avoiding falling backward (aka. poke position)

Parent Talking points
Love the accomplishments xyz did on the hill..... getting a better understanding of moving quick and snappy when transitioning from initial forward motion to backward tumbling

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ...
. how far out do hands go from feet when tumbling
. where should feet be at end of tumbling skill... and why

COACHES SKILL CHOICE area
. Use this to work a skill specific to their needs in their ON THE FLY skill charts.

Tick Tock Family
. Use the blocks as we have in the past

PARTNER's in motion
keep kids moving by having the partner do a fitness skill of your choice next to the station X number of times before switching with their partner at that station (or some similar concept)

Garage

Trampoline - Swivel Hip development
ON THE SQUARE in center of the tramp. Feed start there.... all Drop skills (example seat DROP) start in center.... then arrive on body part also in center/ repeat

. Seat drops... from stand... then when ready from bounce
> hand placement on the sit should be about where one's end of shorts or bottom of pocket would be.
> slight forward lean to aid in rising back to feet
. Do a half turn first starting with hands over head
> land on feet then do seat drop
> > when ready have them turn and skip landing on; instead land in seat drop.

Wall - coaches option
. Walk down bridges..
>arms remain straight-ish at all times
> body remains tense.... should have force traveling from feet thru the skeleton to the hands and back from hands to feet... tight-ish muscles required
>> may need to walk feet slightly in or out from wall to keep the back's arch in a range comfortable/ within their arch abilities.
. Back Bends w/out the wall as shown in video
. Pre Back Hand Springs- using the barrel to roll into this would be for those who have stronger handstands
. kick to handstand against barrel and push to tight front of body landing on soft mats behind them. Whole body should contact same time. Arms straight
>> make sure the mats are close enough for chest to be on soft padded area of mat on the stomach landing portion. See hints on video
. Lay on back on barrel with feet on 12" mat. Or move 12" mat where wedge is and push off wall w/ feet.
> push off mat with feet and roll backward. Pike down to feet. (help them identify this PIKE down..... reminding them that later this is NOT the shape they use for backhandsprings
> THRU HANDSTAND- >THIS IS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO CAN DO THE STEPs ABOVE SUCCESSFULLY.
>> Push off mat rolling back and attempting to get to a handstand "free" of the barrel.
>> do as above with enough speed that once arriving in handstand they can pass vertical and push away to front of body landing on soft mat.
>>> NOTE: hands likely need to go on carpet for these and not on the soft mat... soft mat tends to slide while pushing on it with hands when attempting to raise themself to handstand

Free space- coaches choice to work on ON THE  FLY skills

Backward Roll off mat
. child arranges themselves by laying on back with head ONLY hanging of edge.
-sits up into a tuck w/out moving bottom to new location
- roll back with head and hands going on carpet.
- encourage chin to remain on chest.
.
fold mat as high (or low as you want) to help kid be successful. when doing head off version. Higher easier, lower more challenging
>> Velcro side is NOT the roll of side.. move mate so kids head/neck is NOT on prickly Velcro.
> for additional challenge have child keep head on the mat ....requiring more abs to pull them over.

Use this for cartwheels and/or roundoffs between the vertical sticks.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONTENT

Round off Hand Placement
The hand placement in ROff described above aids the body in turning front of body  into direction of travel as well better puts body in a stretched open position allow for a better snap down

How far away do hand(s) go from furthest back foot when executing a skill
. in a perfect world (granted there is tweaks done at higher levels) the hand(s) typically should contact the ground a full body's length away from the back foot..... Full body= foot to tip of fingers with arms raised overhead.

What are 3 bounce/bounding positions the kid should arrive in at the end of skills to help promote power and successful transition into the skill connected to it.

. Poke position.... aka feet forward of head with body in slight tight hollow (arrived by feet/legs scooping (rotating) under the kid, not by throwing shoulders back). Example use- bouncing off the ground in a poke at end of a skill aids in putting power into backhandsprings that follows that skill.
. Vertical contact position- feet directly below the body when bounced. Body itself is held in an open chest with arms over head and glutes very tight..... bouncing thru toes. This is often referred to as a "Set position" / "5 eyes up". This aids in directing the kid up without much sacrifice in rotation... can actually increase rotation as well.. but way to complicated to describe here .....
. Typical rebound position is when feet contact the ground BEHIND the body at end of round off and backhandsprings etc. Most typical is for RE-BOUNDS which is vertically bounced flight and end of a skill with all preseeding flip energy built up transferred to heigh flight only. Granted and extremely fast powerful tumbler can put feet further back in skill prior to  flipping, to gain additional height.... (a "block" is term for this) but this only works best for those with fast powerful tumbling...... till then pushing for a "block" can wear out ankles and can make resulting flip slow and scary to a new learner.

Goals of BHS training with a barrel.
As tumbling director if you have not come to this conclusion yet LOL.... am really wanting to encourage coaches to have all the kids eventually  to arrive/travel thru a full handstand support when traveling thru hand support phase of a backhandsprping. Thus the goal is to when using barrel etc... for kid to have NO body parts on the barrel, and the whole body to be in a stretched slight tight arch handstand position before they student takes any action to land on the feet.
